INKYFINGERS: January Update III
Hello, all! Inkyfingers here, reporting on everything I can see happening in the Arcanist's Tavern from my hidey-hole in the walls.
SOLD OUT EVENTS - Wow. Just wow. I would usually advertise our special events in this newsletter, but we've already sold out of just about every one of them! We recognise this isn't ideal for everyone and are looking at ways to make our events more frequent, without compromising the quality of the events and/or exhausting the hosts.
D&D BEGINNERS NIGHTS - Never played D&D before, or wanting to get an update to the 2024 rules? We will be holding Beginners Nights, perfect for anyone who wants to get into Dungeons and Dragons. One of our veteran game masters will provide you with all of the materials you need, and then guide you through character creation and all the essential rules, before leading you into your first adventure. The next session will be held on Monday 3 Feb, followed by another session on Monday 3 Mar. Tickets for both sessions are available now.
DICE CULT - Have you got the itch to play more board games but can't always get the right amount of people together? Every Tuesday evening in the Tavern, we host Dice Cult, a board game club created for exactly that reason. You can organise a game ahead of time on our Discord server, or show up on the night and see what happens! Dice Cult begins at 18.30 every other Tuesday (the next session is on 28 Jan), and costs £7 to join. I have an itch too but it's for very different reasons.
OUTSIDE FOOD POLICY - There has been an increase in visitors to the Tavern bringing in food and drinks from the outside world. The Tavern is an independent business, and we're sustained largely by our food and drink sales, so for your safety (allergies) and our safety (financially), we have a strict No Outside Food Policy. We may be forced to ban repeat offenders. If you have strict dietary requirements that prevents you from consuming anything from our menus, please let us know.
QUEST BOARD - Tickets for the final Quest Board refresh of this Narrative Arc are now on sale! They are also pretty much entirely sold out (whoops). There’s still a couple of spaces available towards the end of the month, so be sure to snag them whilst they last.
STAFF PROFILE - Benedikt is the subject of our final staff profile (at least for now) and is also the co-founder of the Arcanist's Tavern, alongside Luna. Here's what he's got to say:
Benedikt, often called Benni by those who are either his friends or very brave, was brought into this world in the emotionally-deprived and bureaucratic hellscape of central Germany, which pretty much perfectly prepared him for running a hospitality venue in 2025 Britain.
He had early contact with RPG systems, mainly through a German system called "Das Schwarze Auge" (the black eye) which sound a lot more metal than it actually is. He tried, with very little success to get his parents and sister to play with him, but most of his time in Aventurien (the sword coast equivalent of DSA) was spent making characters and maps, thinking about stories and (once it was released) absolutely demolishing the DSA PC game which was universally seen by everyone but him as unequivocally terrible.
He moved to the UK for love, realised that love sucks and then did, what any broken-hearted edgy early 20 year old in his position would do, he became a musical theatre actor, which meant he immediately started multiclassing as a bartender. After about 8 years of drama school, being on stage and at night working the bars of London, the pandemic broke both of his career legs, which in a way was very fortunate because not soon after, a stunning apparition with a huge amount of beautifully crafted eyeliner came to him and asked him if opening an immersive tabletop RPG Bar would be a good idea.
He said no, because it sounded insane.
She wouldn't leave (she was kind of living in his flat for a few months so it was fine). They then both probably drank a lot and suddenly the idea seemed great.
Fast forward about 3 years of insane amounts of spreadsheets, pop ups, funding pitches, cowboy builders and a huge portion of luck, he finds himself in the middle of the dream that both him and Luna (it was her all along!!) were working on for so long.
He is surrounded by an insanely good team who all pull more than their own weight which he will be forever thankful for, and engulfed in a beautiful community who prove to him every week why this has been worth it all along.
You can usually find him behind the bar with what he thinks looks like a charming smile, ready to make you a sandwich, pour you a pint or push Inkyfingers back into the endless pit that exists under the stairs.
Until next time, adventurers!
I.
